Absolutely, spreading the word and getting people to start asking questions is what this is all about. Best wishes-Pete

It’s really good that the celebs are getting involved.
This movie gives a lot of hints of what is wrong – but there are no real solutions here

      The next steps:
1.Structural development and design to specifically increase the likelihood of verbal engagement
      2. redirect the use of material consumption at all levels
2.Block the increased privatization of goods and services
      3. A crucial reclamation of information and communication
      4. Reaching out to international communities, actively seperating ourselves as Americans from the systematic problems… ensure that the character of the people is seen internationally as clearly seperate from the irresponsible nature and interests of the unfortunate state.
      5. Increase non-nuclear family living structures to facilitate power.
      and more…

Hi, I want to get a copy of the movie. I live in Turkey and looking for international shipping. Is there any chance of getting the movie here? Because I looked at ebay and other places on the web and couldn’t find one.

  3. Mark B. says:

Just watched this on the download at Amazon. Well done with simple concepts that everyone should understand. Most of this we’ve seen before in bits and pieces from many places, most of this we’ve seen multiply and grow over the years. This video puts it all together in a simple and powerful message. Don’t give up. We are the 99%

Found this through Occupy Anchorage- in a word: phenomenal.

Great stuff. Well done Pete. I’m ordering a copy now :)

  5. Your way of explaining the whole thing in this piece of writing is actually pleasant, all can simply know it, Thanks a lot.

  6. Excellent site you have here but I was wondering if you knew of any discussion boards that cover the same topics talked about in this article? I’d really like to be a part of group where I can get feed-back from other knowledgeable people that share the same interest. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks a lot!

You need to see the Thrivemovement.com which will blow your mind even further away than this movie. Take 3 minutes now to watch the trailer at the above site. All in the same vein with a very positive message for action(s) we can all take to make this world truly thrive.
We can do it together if we take the action steps presented in Ethos and Thrive..it’s really easy..just do it. Peace.

      • Nita Fortune says:

Thank you Dan! My husband and I watched Thrive last week, and Ethos last night. We are all in for making the change that has to be made. My hope is that this goes viral and everyone does what needs to be done. Our childrens future depends on us doing the right things!

  7. Eli Mellor says:

    Dear Mr.Harrelson,
I heard about your film over KPFK here in L.A. today I would like to get in touch with you. People like me have been thru the “eye of the needle” in reaching people like you for more than 30 years…I would be delighted to discuss “America…going in all the wrong directions” and the” path to liberty” with you. I am currently involved in the political arena but, am open to possibilities of some association.Time is of essence! The Time Is Now!

  8. Enlighten Unity says:

Brother Harrelson Congrats & Big Up to all yours excellent dedicated works .

  10. Chris Faust says:

Nicely Done! I think Ethos is the missing part of the movie “Thrive”, whereby simply changing our buying habits, dropping out of TV land, and following the Socratic Method and endlessly asking one simple question of our politicians, “How are you going to win the war on, “(Insert endless war Topic Here)”?” (Poverty, terror, drugs, cancer, illiteracy, national debt….) becomes devastating to the consumerism world of the special élite.
Because politicians know they can’t continue to support following the path we are on, and win any of these wars!
Just try it the next time your congressman is on a local TV or Radio call in show and watch how they squirm. It’s really great to see how flustered they are when forced to address a real problem, which does have a solution, versus an ideological one, that can never be solved.

  11. Ben Reeves says:

As a Canadian I found this extremely relevant. This documentary pertains to all, and especially our ecosystem which cannot evade plunder on its own. Independent thinking is critical in a culture which is spiraling out of control in a reality television coma. People make choices! Make the choice to communicate with friends, family, neighbors and local government. THINK FOR YOURSELF!

  12. patrick says:

I enjoyed the movie it was interesting although I’m not sure if the end message will work, I’m aware of the buy ethical ethos, and I do try to do so. Although many of the worst corporate offenders against society don’t really sell goods to the mass market, arms manufacturers, companies involved in the extraction of raw materials. The is a case in Ireland involving Shell oil who are involved in a controversial gas pipeline and extraction project which is widely unpopular, this resulted in a widespread a boycott of Shell in Ireland. Shell’s response was to rebrand all their petrol/gasoline stations to the name Topaz the company has done little to placate the widespread public anger. The government is bought by the corporation and protester face attacks from both Shell employees and garda/police at the site. How can buy ethical try to fix this sort of problem? I think to buy ethical is effective but it has a limited scope this movie is a little misleading in that it seems to give buy ethical an unlimited scope.

    • Barbara says:

Though individual consumer choices do have an effect, they are not as powerful or as meaningful as we would hope. For example, for my health, I need to build a new house. There are green products for that purpose that are better for the planet but are bad for my illness (chemical sensitivities–I could give myriad examples just from this instance alone). We can’t even find out the most basic information about the products we have to buy–how much carbon did it take to manufacture, how much carbon to get the product to the distribution point, how it was raised or made, was the workforce that made/raised the product unionized or not, or maybe it was slave labor? (Everybody has electronic equipment that has mined minerals in it that were mined, quite often, in the most unethical way imaginable–see the documentary, Blood in the Mobile) Credo supports progressive causes, but isn’t unionized. Verizon is corporate behemoth that is–these are choices between the lesser of two evils–not to mention that I get better connectivity where I live with Verizon. Then there is the price…lots of times people would prefer the safer, more ethical product but, because of economies of scale or the oligopoly of the marketplace, these better products are out of many people’s reach (i.g., Wal-Mart is cheaper than Whole Foods). Then there is the built infrastructure we’re pretty much stuck with: the electrical grid and its methods of power generation, the buildings, roads, bridges, dams, levees, sewer and stormwater systems, the locations of most major population centers near coasts, etc. There are no easy answers for any of these, and many of these problems are simply out of the scope of individual consumer choices. This is why we need good governance, no matter how down on government most of us are– to set the rules and standards and that makes industry make the best, safest, most ethical products affordable–Richard Wolff’s co-ops idea would help here. Getting the money out of politics would have an enormously good effect, but, unfortunately, is not a choice that I, as an individual consumer, can make. That takes collective effort. Obviously, too, we need a media system, that instead of feeding us junk and propaganda, gives us real information that is coherent– instead of fragmenting our knowledge. Getting rid of the Federal Reserve and having each state have its own bank (like North Dakota) would help with the so-called debt crisis. That again is not an individual choice I can make; it is a matter of collective action.

One “consumer choice”, if it can be called that, would be for all North Americans and western Europeans and other rich populations to seriously curtail our numbers. A one-child policy for rich people, since such populations use up an inordinate amount of resources (130 times the average Indian).

      • mike says:

jesus barb, all the crap you said in this sounds retarded. 1st of all you cant hope for something thats not going to ever happen unless we take over the gov. never will the news be honest of real issues and never will the gov give two shits about us. be realistic when you type shit. and im sorry you have chemical sensitivities, i guess your screwed but guess what your not the only human on this planet with issues and let alone yours is pretty much nothing theres people with issues 10 times worse than yours so go cry 2 someone else. and why are there so many idiots on this website jesus.

    • mike says:

what???? dude you make no sense.this must be 1 of the spy idiots trying to change topics. wdc bout gas in ireland survivor. we care bout more than gasoline cause gas is irrelavant to the big picture yea so what bush has a huge pretty much monopoly on gas we got bigger issues than that

  13. Anzac says:

    G’Day Woody,

big fan of yours mate, love your work! Sensational doco about the real world and something that should be made available to all education centres around the world. Unfortunately Australia appears to be determined to stick to the old Vietnam saying of “all the way with LBJ” in supporting the US government and it’s doctrine. Our resources are being mined or chopped down at an astonishing rate all in the name of the mighty dollar. A “carbon tax” to be applied soon to all of it’s citizens will be negated by the same industries and commerce controlling and causing the problems all of us suffer from in the first place! NUTS!!

Is there somewhere that this documentary can be watched online or downloaded for free? Youtube? In my opinion it should be made available to the masses as I believe it would go viral. Keep up the good fight guys we’d be lost without you!

    Cheers,
    Anzac

this movie speaks a lot of truth . the same thing is happening in my island in T&T we have adopted their or should i say your way the American way the Banksters way lol we are being pushed in the ways of Bernays ‘it not u need something u will feel better with it …….this is how our mind works the elites think we the masses needs to be control please i saw it and u sound like u can help me make the people open their eyes and expand their minds Thanks

  15. WM says:

Excellent film, with some very thought provoking “connect-the-dots” logic. It’s important for everyone to see this movie, if not to believe in the sinister hands controlling our world, then to realise the hidden power in everyone’s wallets. The people control the Deman, and thus, should Demand a better world.

  16. ibo can says:

Hi woody I liked the movie very much but as you would know it goes deeper than some rich people making money. the people that you guys describing is called Illuminati…. they are the devil worshipers. their basic strategy is to create chaos , hunger, poverty, war and blood to the world. and of course making money to keep the power in their hands. But why ? if you search Illuminati in google image search first thing will come up picture of devil. in their believe they are preparing the world for the coming of their lord the devil. these people has got many sects like mason or freemason etc. they are everywhere their symbols appear the places their power reached. sadly from Politicians to universities , from supermarkets to Vatican. you can clearly see lots pictures of El Diablo”—horns of the devil sign making with their fingers or Hammer equates the Roc hand sign with the Masonic triangle hand sign. people like George Bush , Clinton and his wife , pope benedict, lady gaga, Obama, Alfred Hitchcock ,Silvio Berlusconi, Ronald Reagan, john Lennon, Usher , Rotten Ronnie, Rihanna and many many more people. in fact the movie company who made your movie starts with an eye which symbolies the all seeing eye which is another of their signs.
or is it just a coincidence?

    • El Diablo says:

      no coincidence…you’re just a lunatic.

Seriously tho…just 23 comments?!! This is an important movie in the vein of The Corporation, Capatilism: A Love Story, etc. please market it! Unless people start mass public readings of Censored or Chomsky, we need these accessible movies to be must see cinema.

    • mike says:

ibo your prolly the dumbest person on here iv seen so far. illuminati really jesus your stupid. first of all there all dead and let alone the devil and god would have 2 exist for any of that 2 be true. and well guess what theres clues in the bible that give away that its a guideline not true. there are other planets with life on them and you would be an idiot 2 not believe that out of billions of galaxies that our little baby milky way galaxy is the only 1 with life, just shutup ibo. and el diablo nice lol

  17. Martin says:

At last my thoughts on this hapless society have been proven and put on film. Just hope this movie isn’t yet more forced propaganda where media control forces panic. We as a society create the money for these large conglomerate companies we as their employee’s and consumers have the power, we unfortunately do not know how to use it. Just stop for a few moments and look around you, with all that you own do you need anymore? Or are you constantly being told what you have is no longer the best or not in fasion anymore? Why is it that even charitable organisations have highly paid directors and board members and spend as much on advertising and sales pitching as the large companies noted in the film. I only put question’s to you in the hope you will open your mind and seek answer’s for if i give you the answer am i any better than the media. Think for yourself look at evidence and make your own judgements and choices before the choice is taken from you.

  18. KeeKira says:

Saw this on FreeSpeechTV today. While I would love for people to grasp what is happening and make the changes needed I often wonder if people would rather be the sheeple the corporations want them to be than do the work it takes to make this world a better place.
The ‘You NEED!’ whatever we are selling to be happy is a hard message for many to resist. So hard to resist in fact they will turn a blind eye to the death and destruction. Sad state of affairs really..

  19. peteware says:

24 comments i think you should have put http://www.ethosthemovie.com a few more times in the film
    keep up the good work

  20. Attila says:

    Excellent film, thank You!

  21. Cliffo says:

I find it utterly terrifying that people need a basic movie like this to make them start thinking. Obviously a lot of people were standing behind the door when brains were being given out. Wake up; all the clues are out there, so look!!!!

  22. moedoggy says:

Wow ….I WILL BUY this movie, a first in a long time….well done!!!!

  23. Casi says:

I’ve seen your movie, and Im almost 100% agreed. But now this, what if the so called ‘phew’ that ‘control’ the world WANT to TEACH ALL HUMANS to BEHAVE and the fastest way to teach 7.000.000.000 people how to live, was to make them unlive and CLAIM what they WANT, TOGETHER! They WANTED FROM THE BEGINNING us to REBEL, showing us that if you let shit happen to you.. it will continue happening until you stop it. This lifetime we are living is time for people all over the world to cooperate, organize and set the world as we want it ! Because I dont think that not even one single human being on earth wants power to create destruction (specially the ones in power).

  24. ian sinclair says:

There is a line forming – an awareness – those in the head and those comming from the heart. The corporations and The People.Your movie brings focus to this and on how we – the People can make a difference. One is many and Many is one and the Many have the Power. Making an informed conscious choice , an ethical choice can create change. Just ask an Egyptian .Apathy is the action of the defeated – criticism and intellectual arguement the bleeting of sheep. Get up – get off your couch and take action – take responsibilty and make a choice with your pocket, your voice, your time. Walk your talk and share this message to all you know. Yes the Revoloution has begun – make your choice .

  25. gary rose says:

The last half of this doc makes me want to see some US politicians–Bush, Cheney, Alaska senater whatshisface, and the rest, tried and cleared or fittingly punished to the degree deemed best for the world. Otherwise, maybe we are the great satan. I am writing my representitives to that effect, lest I to be found guilty by consent.

    • Brandon says:

Don’t solely blame the Republicans for it. Democrats are just as much to blame.*

*note, I am neither a democrat nor a republican and truly despise 99% of politicians from both said parties. One of the biggest lies being fed to the American people is that there is a difference between the two, and we need to fight that.

  26. Jason Moreno says:

Some of us (Americans) are able to see the truth of what is happening in our country. Unfortunately, in every election, city, county, state, federal, our desire to improve our condition is stymied by those who have been successfully “brainwashed” by the media, especially senior citizens. In my own city of Hayward, Ca., the older generation hampers improvement by failing to consider election choices other than a Democrat or Republican, even though, neither of these parties have improved their lot. I only hope that every city in America is experiencing a rejection of big newspapers as we do, similarly, with the Daily Review. It is a necessary first step. The necessary 2nd step is to drop cable and satellite television. Good luck, fellow Americans.

  27. This was an excellent film, however it is missing a very important part of the puzzle that will ultimately be necessary for complete and lasting global change. I do believe that buying power is important, but that is really just the beginning. The only way that this is going to change on a permanent basis is through the power of love. As corny as that may sound to some, it is absolutely true.

As a long time metaphysician and spiritual teacher and in the wake of several spiritual awakenings, I have come to know that we are actually One being living in what I liken to a sort of hologram.. which quantum physics supports by the way. It was shown to me and spoken to me in my first of several experiences in Oneness that we have our existence in “The Body Of God in Creation”.

I also discovered in those experiences that our essential nature is love, however difficult that may be for some to believe at this point in our history and given all that is going on in the world. It certainly does not appear to be so. The sole reason these conditions exist however is because we have become divorced from our hearts. We have lost our way.. and we need to find our way back home again. And this means all of us. That the SEC has it that a corporation’s fiduciary responsibility is solely to profits and with utter disregard for people or the planet speaks loudly to the fact that something is dreadfully wrong and that we have lost our way.

I have personally seen the power of love in action and it’s capacity to change people and situations. I also know that change in the world begins with change within ourselves. As I said, we are One, and so if we are to change the world, we must first Awaken our own hearts, and to do that we must invoke, or invite in our divine nature. In other words we must seek to awaken the Divinity that lay within each and every one of us. The reality is, as I see it, that we must rediscover who, and what we are in order for this to change or we will be in dire straights in a very short time.

The good news is that there are literally thousands of people worldwide who are waking up spiritually as Life (or God) is responding to what is likely the worst crisis that mankind has ever faced. I know several people who have experienced their divinity as I have, and this is currently a global phenomenon that is growing day by day. When these changes happen to an individual, it shifts the consciousness of the planet and of humanity worldwide on a logarithmic scale also.. so the effect is profound worldwide.

There are also people of high rank in the banking cartels and in governments who are “seeing the light” quite literally, and are either leaving their places of work or are staying and working from within to bring about much needed change.

In short, things are changing, and we can drastically help ourselves and help the entire planet if we both individually and collectively drop down into our hearts and live from love/compassion. Change IS possible.. and in fact literally ANYTHING is possible from the energy field of Love. As I said, love is our True nature and Beingness.
    Best Regards,
    Dr. John

  28. You actually make it appear really easy along with your presentation but I find this matter to be actually something that I feel I might by no means understand. It sort of feels too complicated and extremely broad for me. I am looking forward in your next submit, I will attempt to get the grasp of it!

  29. I like the valuable information you provide in your articles.
I’ll bookmark your blog and check again here regularly. I am quite sure I will learn lots of new stuff right here! Good luck for the next!

  30. VIagra says:

I believe that is one of the so much important info for me. And i am satisfied studying your article. But should commentary on few normal things, The website style is ideal, the articles is in point of fact great : D. Excellent process, cheers

  31. Ronnie Z says:

A different way of seeing the world is slipping into place–click!–people are awakening to a different and much more accurate picture of reality than the one being fed to us by manipulative opinion leaders and continually reverberated by all the sheeple within our larger social groupings. If we can see the way social dynamics are being shaped, by instilling fear to make people willing to obey hierarchical power, we can see through the various “wars on _____” and call the cards.

The thing about money, however, is this: money is just a symbol constructed by us human primates, and it only “works” because we all continue to believe in the games we play with it; the systems of the Earth, on the other hand, were not created by us, and when we destabilize them, we cannot fix them with money. Governments can print all the money they want, and it will not translate into satisfying the cumulative human “demand” as long as we’re all pursuing a continual-growth paradigm. Telling the difference between what’s socially constructed and what’s not will be the key to waking up from the delusions this movie exposes.

  32. Kim Pedersen says:

I have see the movie and agree this its contents as I watch about 1 hr tv from time to time so i am not bombarded with the media hype on this buy buy buy and news is just loaded with lies as in my life I have see things that were misleading and still shown by the media to be true. New world order is coming wither we want it or not but if we as a people stand united we can beat them at their own game.

  33. clay says:

kudos to the gang and woody for your truth and honesty. I only wish there were more high profile stars willing to step up,that have a spine and some dignity toward their country and planet, such as yours. Canada too is flying the corporate flag…ma and pa stores are a thing of the past, along with free enterprise.and corporations are laughing all the way to` their banks`. they surely are the bane of our existence. stop corporate buying and stop banking….simple. buy local, buy used, buy sensible.
    cb,canada

  34. I always was concerned in this topic and still am, regards for putting up.

  35. More Exposure says:

Guys, if you REALLY want everyone to see it, promote the fact that it’s already on YOUTUBE for FREE! For God Sakes! You’ve done a fabulous job…now get to work on getting everyone to see it. Why are you encouraging people get if from Amazon (of all places….another corporation spitting out millions of worthless consumer goods all over the planet)….I comment here with deep appreciation for all your efforts in putting this film out….but having to buy it from Amazon or order it first WILL stop thousands of people in their viewing tracks. And I ask you – what’s more important here? Good luck!!!

  36. Tom Loeber says:

A common fallacious perspective is offered in this film that we currently have a system that can be fixed. We are going to have to create a functional human social system like we’ve never known. Money has a lot of power. Means for people to coordinate how they use it can do good things but the viable system, the key, is to find a way to share all information for the benefit of ourselves and life in general without money or any other game parameters that assumes for some to win, others must lose. Under those rules we all lose. We have the tools to leave behind a token existence that sacrifices real worth for fantasies. Suspect if we find a way to share the real wealth of our existence before destroying ourselves, each will be wealthier than anyone today. Time keeps on slipping…

    • Charlotte DeFrancisco says:

I was watching the full version on facebook…and suddenly it was cut off. Went back to find it again, and it was gone! ODD. So I found this site, where I read that a free download was available, yet I do not see that it is available any longer.
Can you help? Please email me any instructions.
      Great great great film!!!

      • Nancy O says:

I agree with you. I don’t see it either. I am trying to get this information to as many people as I can and it would help if it would be here when those folks come to the site. Great film. We got to get it to more and more people to see it. The nation (world) has to wake up to bring down the elites (1%), call it what you will. They have to be stopped!!

    • Jen says:

      Such excellent thinking

  37. Brandon says:

Just want to say, I both loved and enjoyed this film; just got done watching it on Netflix a few minutes ago.

I would like to say that politically, I did not agree with everything that was said in the meat of the movie and felt that there was a pretty strong bias, in certain parts and certain clips.

HOWEVER, regardless of you political leaning, only a fool would deny that there is a problem in this country/world and that we need to correct somethings. Regardless of whether you’re a republican, democrat, or intelligent enough to get past the lie of dichotomy, some things from this movie are undeniably true. And regardless of who or what you blame, if you can agree on the problem (the average American being screwed by business and government being in bed together) and the majority of the solutions (informing yourself, exercising your rights so they are harder to take away from you, speaking your voice, voting with your dollar, etc), we need to put aside or differences and work together.

I can’t speak for the rest of the world, but I know here in America, we are very guilty of that. We can agree on the problem (lets say Big Ag, like Monsanto, is hurting us) and we can agree on the solution (grow more of our own food or only buy from farmer’s markets, or only buy directly from the farmer) but because one of us blames one party and the other blames a different party or whatever, we refuse to work together. Okay. If you can’t agree on the problem, or you can’t agree on the solutions for the problems, fine, argue. But we can at least agree on there being a problem and can at least agree on some of the solutions, than grow up. Don’t let them continue to divide and control us.

How fed up are we? I have, for the longest
time, proposed a bloodless revolt which would
both highlight where the power truly is, as well
as affect the government and the financial
oligarchs calling the shots. STOP SPENDING.
Buy NOTHING unless it is ABSOLUTELY
essential. Go back to a level of financial
conservatism that we experienced in the
1920′s and 30′s, setting an example for
our government to follow! Buy used
    whenever possible. Recycle. Barter.
    Grow some food. Share. Consolidate.
    Cooperate. Build something yourself.
Spend cash, don’t use credit. Walk. Mend.
It’ll drive them crazy and, best of all, our
tax burden will plummet and we’ll be able
    to save more.
In the past, I operated below the poverty
line for 10 years without public assistance,
comfortably. My children lived with a self-
made depression era Mom and learned
so much about conserving, by example.
Now I learn new conservation tricks from
them every time I turn around.

We out number the power thousand to one. Believe you me WW3 is soon approaching and if the powers dont be careful its not going to be the type of war they want, it wont be no accuse and lets go snag some oil, it will be the 99% against the 1% and the guidelines of life the bible even tells us the rich and poor will battle. And i will gladly say that i am proud 2 be part of the 99%. They may have power but power is useless against the pissed off 99% when the rest of the 99% realizes whats really going on and how bad there srewing us and slowly trying to kill us with there poisonous foods and toxins in the air we breathe. The power dont realize we have more to fight for than they do. By treating us the way they do and try to kill us off slowly there taking over where hitler left off, and guess what power the good guys never lose. We the 99% will prevail and will conquer the bad guys. The power better be careful cause they obviously are watching and monitering the things we say on here and on our phones so read this one you 1 percent cockstain, not only are you watching us but guess what, WE SEE YOU TOO.

Hosted by twice Oscar nominated actor and activist Woody Harrelson, Ethos lifts the lid on a Pandora's Box of systemic issues that guarantee failure in every aspect of our lives, from the environment to our democracy and our own personal liberty. From conflicts of interest in politics to unregulated corporate power, to a military industrial complex that just about owns our government. We cannot change our system until we know how it works and this film, with interviews from some of today's leading thinkers, will show you a simple but powerful way to start making meaningful and sustainable change. We can live in peace and justice in a clean environment and Ethos will show you how.
